Just a brief update. Kerrie had kind of a yukky day yesterday, not feeling real good in the morning, but after the doctor’s rounds it was out of bed and in to the shower. She enjoyed that, then sat up for awhile to visit with her most welcome company, her Aunt Nancy and Uncle Chuck. She was glad to get back to bed as she is not as strong as she used to be and gets tired pretty quickly. PT came in and watched us stand, pivot, sit and lay down. Guess we passed the test, so they left some exercises we can do in bed. Hopefully her counts will…

    Tuesday June 5th / Wednesday June 6th/Thursday June 7th

It’s 12:30am Thursday morning, but as far as I am concerned it’s still Wednesday because I am still at work. No change in Kerrie’s condition on Tuesday.. no better.. no worse.. that’s a good thing I guess. Wednesday, her blood counts were higher than they have been, which is good, but her Billyruben ( some count of something in her Liver) was also higher.. which is not good.  Mom said she looked decent on Tuesday, but was swollen and Jaundice ( yellow) again today. She’s not responding to the medications they have been giving her and they feel she’s building up an immunity to them, so they changed the medications again…

    Monday, June 4th

The preliminary results of the liver biopsy are in.. and it’s what we were afraid of. Preliminary results show Kerrie has GVHD ( Graft Vs. Host Disease). We knew this was a risk with the initial transplant, and an even greater risk when it was discovered the Myeloidyspastic Syndrome was back and they took her off the Prograf to give her immune system a chance to progress and fight the cancerous cells… so here we are. They are treating the GVHD with steroids and have started the Prograf again… as for the MDS… can’t treat that until the GVHD is under control. Still waiting on the final DNA results from…

    Sunday, June 3rd

I was several hours late, getting to Michigan, yesterday and boy did Kerrie let me have it. I’d been so busy at work, I didn’t think to call her and she spent all day waiting for me.. and worried something had happened. When I finally called, after being 6 hours late, to tell her I was running behind she picked up the phone and said, “Well, it’s about time you thought to call!!” To make up for it, she forced me to make her a chocolatly milkshake.. and said I would have to make one for Ron and Alisa too.. she wanted a milkshake party. Ron and Alisa opted for…

    Saturday June 2

Got to the hospital after work to find Kerrie sitting up in bed finishing her dinner with a big smile on her face. She looked pretty good and seemed to be comfortable and content. Told me later that she had felt “antsy” all day, but couldn’t really explain it. Just felt good for a while and then didn’t feel so good. Took her table top mirror to her, to make tooth brushing a little easier…….put it on her table and she took a look and said “I’ve got hair! Look at my hair!”.  Seems all this time she couldn’t really see herself in the overbed table mirror. We’d been telling…

    Friday Night

Just a quick note: No word on the liver biopsy yet….. hopefully sometime this weekend or by Monday at the latest. No, Kerrie didn’t sleep thru the biopsy…..says she remembers it all, but didn’t care. Versed is a wonderful drug…….if you have had surgery lately you probably had it. You are awake, but you don’t give a darn about anything they do…. and don’t remember the rough stuff (if you remember anything at all). She was running a little temp earlier today… Her friend Donna came to visit and I was getting ready to leave when they showed up to take her for a chest xray (because of the temp?…

    Thursday, May 31st

Kerrie had a liver biopsy done this morning.. she was scared, but they druged her pretty good so I’m sure she went right to sleep and didn’t feel it. Not sure how this is done exactly, because they go in through the neck down to her liver.. I think I’d have to be drugged the day before! She was upset, and asked Mom why she always has to have all these horrible things done to her, but Mom could only respond with “I don’t know Kerrie!” By now, the procedure should be done and Kerrie is, hopefully, back in her room and sleeping. We love you Ker-Bear and we are…

    Wednesday noon

Hi Just a quick word with some so called ‘updates’.  Hold on to  your seat Jenn, got the Ultrasound report and guess what?  Kerrie has gallstones!  I know, I know……..we knew that, so did the doctors and nurse practitioners. So, back to square one……….. Ker’s face does not look so yellow today………is that because she is off one of the antifungal meds? Did a gall stone pass letting the bile throught? Was the bile even blocked in the first place? Is her liver affected, does she need a biopsy?  Her bilirubin results weren’t back…waiting for those. May help to make a decision re: biopsy or not. Wait and see again.…

    Tuesday, May 29th ( 11:30PM)

Got a brief update from Mom tonight… First she wants me to make sure everyone knows that the reason she hasn’t put a post on is because she couldn’t figure out how to get on the Admin page from my laptop! Likely excuse 🙂 No answer on the DNA cell info yet.. hoping this will be soon, since we were expecting it last week. They are going to do a CT scan on her stomache to see what’s going on there.. According to Mom, her stomache is distended and she hasn’t been eating much in the last few days. They want to check this out, and if that doesn’t show…

I have a twin!! ( well… almost) Kerrie finally let me win the biggest fight we’ve had and her blood type is officially changed to mine! Yeah!!! Mom’s still waiting to hear on the DNA testing, to determine if her cells are more mine or hers, but right now we’re as close to being twins as two people born in seperate years can be! When I told Kerrie how happy I was she said, “Oh Jenn.. You’re one of a kind.”  No Kerrie.. I’m not. I’m two of a kind!
