Tuesday, January 30th

There are some days you should just look out the window every once in a while.

Today would have been one of those days. My temporary “winter” office doesn’t have any windows ( or much heat for that matter), so I tend to sit for hours, working diligently on a project ( While practically sitting on top of my space heater) and don’t think about what may be going on beyond my computer screen.

When I finally decided to leave work, around 10:30pm, I knew I was in trouble before I made it all the way to the front door. I could tell, from the hallway, that the snow was piled up in front of the door and that we must have gotten some snow, and blowing wind, while I was tucked away at my computer. I was not expecting to walk outside into an absolute blizzard.

As I stood in near calf-deep snow, desperately brushing almost a foot of snow off the car and trying to pull my frozen car door open, I really regreted not wearing boots to work. I could hear my mother’s voice telling me I should wear boots and take other shoes with me.. but I never did listen. No, the cute, little leather shoes with the buttons on the side were just too cute and they won out over the boots. Really, what’s a little snow? Gloves? Of course not.. that would have been sensible and was yet another thing I never listened to my mother about.

It was so cold, my car almost wouldn’t turn over. That would have been fun, since the park police officer was somewhere out patrolling the park and I would have to wait for him to finish patrolling a frozen, empty amusement park before he would come around and I could get some help. Finally got the car to start and the gate from the parking lot wouldn’t open.. frozen shut. I’m going to have to spend the night in my office. Great… but then I realized I just hadn’t pulled close enough to set off the sensors. I blame it on my brain, hands and toes being frozen.. I obviously wasn’t thinking clearly enough.

An eight mile drive took me almost 40 minutes. I definately need to learn to leave my desk every once in a while and look out the window..

Today is our brother, Ron’s, birthday and he had a nice surprise on his voicemail.. Kerrie, singing Happy Birthday. At least as close as she could get to it.

I think his daughter, Robyn, gave him one of the best gifts he could have asked for.. a STRAIGHT A Report Card. AWESOME job Robyn. Gee, wish I had given my parents a gift like that.. even once ( and I’m sure they do to:) )

Althought I’m sure you are thrilled reading about my stupidity, my brother turning a year older and my niece showing just how smart she is I’m sure what you really want to hear about it Kerrie!

Mom said the procedure went “O.K.” I don’t like how she used the phrase, so I am betting there is something she’s not telling me, but she insists Kerrie was sedated for it. She stayed with Kerrie as long as she could ( and even stayed after they told her she could go back to the waiting room).. and then reminded one of the doctors she was supposed to be sedated. His response.. “Oh I guess I had better change her orders then.”

Yeah buddy, you’d better! Good thing she was there. The Doctor doing the procedure knew she was supposed to be sedated, so I am sure there wouldn’t have been a problem.. but having Mom around always helps.

According to Kerrie, she remembers everything.. According to Mom, who looked at the chart afterward, there’s no way she remembers it. I hope not.. I remember the second time they had to put in her Tri-Luman Catheter and no matter how much pain stuff they gave her she still felt it.

Mom assures me they gave her so much stuff there’s no way she felt it and it’s even noted in her chart that Kerrie said her pain was “0”.

It will be a couple of days before they have any of the results of the cultures back, so we’ll have to wait.. yet again.. to see what’s going on.

It definately looks like NOMC is out of the question for this week. But, I’m not suprised. Maybe next week???

For those of you living in the North.. stay warm
For those of you living in the South… I hope you have a freak snowstorm and get caught out in your shorts 🙂

    Jen,

Just thought this would brighten your day, Tallahassee, Florida was in the twenties last night, the high today is 44! I’m not planning on wearing shorts today( as if I ever would). I think you should invest in a weather radio to hear the updates. So glad you made it home. Put an extra blanket in your car along with matches, candles and a clay plot in case you get caught in a snow storm. Some water would help. Or else leave work on time!!!

Thanks for keeping us informed. Stay warm.
