I heard from Mom a little while ago…

Dr. Jana has opted not to give Kerrie the Liver Biopsy, due to her platellet levels dropping, and is going to start her on steroids.  She feels Kerrie’s liver problems are Graft Vs. Host disease ( meaning my immune system doesn’t like her liver) and wants to start treating her right away.

According to Dr. Jana, this is the first time she has started treating someone for Graft Vs. Host, before actually doing a biopsy to determine that’s the problem, but.. as usual.. Kerrie has turned out to be a special case. She doesn’t want to wait for Kerrie’s platellets to go up, then test her and then start treatment.. so treatment starts right away. Of course, the steroids are dangerous, in general, but we had been previously told that Dr. Jana wanted to try to avoid these because of the clot, etc. in Kerrie’s brain… but this is the treatment for the GVHD ( Graft Vs. Host Disease).

They are also going to do an Echo-Cardiogram sometime today, because Kerrie has liquid around the liver and heart… Will have to wait to hear more from Mom on this.

Otherwise, she said Kerrie is doing fine… eating ice like crazy, but otherwise fine. She’s been talking about sensation in her face, again, and her left eye was opening slightly.. so maybe the tingling is a good thing.

I’m not sure what type of computer access I will have, as I will be at Cedar Point for the remainder of the week, but I will do my best to update when I can!
