Two Steps Forward……… and One Step Back

                              TWO STEPS FORWARD

What an awesome day!

Started when without thinking I was putting on Ker’s socks and I asked her to lift up her right foot…… and she did. All of a sudden I realized what she had done and I told her and she said “I did?” and then smiled…. seems like a small step, but for her an important one.

Despite her not feeling totally up to par, we went to therapy and did she do good! Hadn’t heard from Henry Ford and figured the blood work done on Monday was OK. OT went well, she stood, balanced, worked on her modified sit ups and generally kept up the pace. I skipped out on speech therapy as I had to run to the store to buy high fat ice cream….. her new diet to eat when she takes one of her meds. She was instructed to eat donuts (didn’t agree with her), creamed cheese, peanut butter, butter, etc. helps the medication absorb better. Got back for physical therapy, the long walk across the room and then……. the STAIRS!  I had told Tim, her PT, that she didn’t always realize that she was improving so he told her he’d prove it by having her take the stairs again….. and away she went. She got to the top, turned, looked down and said, “right foot first, right?”.  At the bottom, Tim said, “see how you’ve improved, I’m not even sweating this time”.  And I pointed out how she didn’t cringe and say “I can’t, I can’t!”. They then went to the other side of the stairs and did the  big ones, total of four times on the stairs. A short rest, then walk across the room and back to the chair. She’d now earned the right to go home 🙂 But not before she told me she was hungry and wanted a hot dog when we got there.

On the way out I picked up a message on my cell phone,  Henry Ford Hospital…. Please call, Kerrie has to come to the clinic in the morning.

                                   ONE STEP BACK…………….

Got home, called Kristel at the clinic. Ker’s counts have gone way down and she needs to come in in the morning. As soon as a bed is available on P2 she will be admitted for a workup. They told me they are not sure what is going on…. They had thought she might have pneumonia (still not definite I guess) or some other infection (the reason for the high fat diet with her medication to make it work better). Guess we will know more tomorrow. Hopefully, this is one of the gliches they warned up about with Transplant patients…. it’s not unusual for them to have to be rehospitalized periodically for infections or other reasons.  But darn it, Kerrie’s due for a break!

So, will keep you all informed via the website as I get info. Keep those thought and prayers coming…..we appreciate them all.

Love Ya

Joan

Joan! I am so proud of You! What a great post!

Kerrie! What terrific progress! Wow Woman! You never cease to amaze me! I don’t think you have any clue of how much your struggles and successes impact those who follow your progess. As we send love and strength to you, you turn around and send it right back at us.

So okay, there’s this minor diversion from the path of continual progress. No big deal. You have your Hordes of Angels watching over you and praying for you. One more obstacle you will hurlde… on one foot. I Believe. Love you Ker!

Thanks for the update Aunt Joan. I know how tired you must be and the extra effort and time you put into the post is most appreciated. Kerrie’s progress is wonderful! I hope this new glitch is only a minor one and she’ll be back on the fast track soon. Take care of you too! Love, Pat
