Week # 2

Kerrie is now nearing the end of her second week in the hospital and seems to be handling all of this very well. We keep being told she’ll be very sick soon, and will hit rock bottom, but it hasn’t seemed to happen yet. Hopefully, the worst is behind her right now.. she has her ups and downs, but every time I talk to her she sounds like the same, cheerful Kerrie. Being her big sister, I know she is probably faking some of this cheerfulness but it’s nice to hear her sound good.

Since I decided to do something silly, and come down with the flue, our mother has quarantined me to the State of Ohio and told me to stay out of Michigan… so I missed out on all the fun this week.

She finally got connected to the internet and is now trying to sort through all the tons of e-mails she has, go through the web page and get back in contact with everyone. I hear the nurses keep giving her Benydril, so she gets sleepy and a little loopy. This could make for some very interesting e-mails and posts from her.

She was getting sick of her hair, and the silly things it was doing…like falling out, so our sister-in-law, Alisa, was going to cut it short last night. Not sure how short, but can’t wait to see her new hairstyle.

Kerrie’s good friend, Sandy Bliss, organized an incredible fundraising bake sale at North Oakland Medical Center, and we were all amazed at how thoughtful and generous the staff was. Sandy, you and the entire NOMC team did a great job and we cannot thank you enough. I wanted to put information, about the sale, in the Fundraising section of K.A.S.T. but didn’t get the information in time. I hear it was a great success and you should all be very proud of yourselves. We feel fortunate that Kerrie has so many great friends and wonderful people that she works with. THANK YOU!

Our cousin, Jessie Vanlue ( Those of you from Cedar Point will know her as Jessie Mecham) is getting ready to host an on-line raffle and has lined up some great items. Feel free to check out the information on the fundraising page. Jess, you have really amazed us with what you have put together!

There’s not much more information to give right now. Kerrie is doing better than we expected, and hope she will stay that way, but she does have her bad days. Many people have asked me if she is feeling up to having visitors… and that changes on a day to day basis. The best thing to do would be to call, or e-mail, her to see how she is feeling at the time. She won’t hesitate to tell you if she’s not feeling up to it just then.

Our mom told me, this morning, that the doctor plans to do some testing on Monday or Tuesday, to see how she is coming along ( and if she is going into remission) and we will hopefully have some good news then.

As soon as I am able to return to Michigan, and my quarantine has been lifted, I will show her how to access the administration part of this page, so she can start leaving you updates herself!

Kerrie… I hope your health staff is getting their rest! I’ll be back soon to be hanging over their shoulders and questioning everything that’s going on. I bet they will be SOOOO happy to see me when they come in at 3:00am to take your blood pressure!

    Jenn,
Please know that I suggested the bake sale to Denise who then took that to the staff on the third floor. Susan and Denise deserve the credit for organizing it. I volunteered to run the sale, Susan set up the fliers tubed them to all of the floors. They put in alot of effort for this bake sale. Please commend them for a job well done. I just set up to take everyone’s “cookie dough”.
