My sister is stoned.
Not just a little buzzed. We’re talking S-T-O-N-E-D!
I arrived around 9:45pm, walked in, took one look at her, looked at Ron and he said “they just gave her some stuff”.
“Hmmm.. Kerrie? Are you enjoying your dilauded?”
“Yeah… Uh – huh” ( slurred speech)
“Kerrie are you buzzed?”
“Yup”
“O.K. our little stoned sister… enjoy your buzz. Ron’s going home and I will see you when you wake up in the morning.”
“Hee heee.. o.k. I’ll be gone, but then I’ll be back soon.”
“O.K. Kerrie. I’ll see you when you get back… have a nice buzz.”
“O.K… zzzzzzzzzzzz”
I’m so glad I busted my butt all day trying to get my work done, ran home, grabbed my suitcase and drove here as fast as I could..just to be able to spend 4 whole minutes with her before she went to sleep. And.. the four minutes of trying to stay awake darn near did her in.
I’m sitting in her room, trying to make sense of Mom’s notes from today. I should have taken a class in “Medical Speak” when I was at college. From what I can determine from her notes..
There is no report on the EEG or the EEG showed nothing to report. I am assuming these notes mean there was nothing to report, but could mean that the report is not in yet.
The x-rays on her abdomine show nothing, other than the inflamation in the Gall Bladder, that we already knew about.
Dermatology was in to take a look at a rash she’s had on her stomache and has determined it’s a heat rash. ???????? Umm.. OK.. if they say so. Never heard of a heat rash in the middle of winter from someone who stays inside 24/7 and whose room is a little chilly.
Her temperature was up to 100 today, so more blood cultures were done.
Her Ferriten was up to 15,000. No idea what Ferriten is, but has something to do with the Iron levels in her blood. They are going to repeat this test, to check for errors.. because in the words of the doctors they’ve “Never seen levels this high.” Of course they haven’t seen this before..this is Kerrie we’re talking about and she hasn’t played by the rules even once.
Later, in Mom’s notes, it looks like the test was already repeated and Kerrie’s levels are at 13,000. Normal is 200.
She’s scheduled for a HIDA Scan at 7:00am Thursday morning. Not sure what HIDA stands for, but it’s some type of scan and ultrasound of the Gall Bladder.
There’s something here, in the notes about, the Iron and Liver problems may be a “fight between RH+ and RH-. Well, if this is the case, Kerrie had better let me win this fight. She won every fight we ever had ( usually because I would run and hide in the bathroom.. she’s tougher than me 🙂 )… but this time Ker-Bear.. you have to let me win and you have to give up that RH- and let your blood type change to A+.
Kerrie’s feeling very weak, tired, sick to her stomache, she’s jaundice and in a good amount of pain. I’m glad they’re letting her be stoned for a while 🙂
All this sounds pretty bad, and it is, but when Mom asked one of the doctors if I should cancel my trip they told her no, there was no reason that I shouldn’t go. She’s pretty sick, but they are going to be able to determine what the exact problems are, what’s causing them.. and then take care of them.
I better have their word on that!
I’m going to get into my PJ’s and watch my beautiful sister sleep for a while…
