So… I called Mom to see how Kerrie is doing.. Kerrie answered the phone 🙂 She said “Hi. How are you?” I was so shocked I almost didn’t respond, but then asked how she was. She said she was fine and was giving the phone to Mom. Even though those brief words probably tired her out it was a nice surprise and I’m glad she used all that energy to surprise me.
Even though her speech is still far from perfect, she was easy enough to understand and I can hear “Kerrie’s voice” when she talks. She hasn’t sounded like Kerrie in a while, so this made the surprise even nicer.
Then I realized that for her to have answered the phone Mom must have her phone on in the room which can only mean one thing… Kerrie is no longer in ICU!
They moved her back to P2 this afternoon… into the same room she had for the transplant and before the stroke. Mom said when they wheeled her into the room she looked around and said “My room!” So, she remembers that she was there before 🙂
Even though Kerrie answered Mom’s phone please don’t jump up and down, get excited and try calling the hospital.I haven’t checked with Mom on this yet, but I am assuming her room phone is on “Privacy” so that people won’t be calling the room all the time. She can speak, but it is still very difficult for her and she wouldn’t be able to say more than two or three words without resting… If we take her phone off privacy she’ll never get any sleep !
As for visitors, I’m not sure. I know a few people had been able to come see Kerrie the week before her trip to ICU, but I’m not sure what her visitation status is right now. I’m sure she’ll want visitors if she’s feeling up to it, but I’ll wait until I get official word on that. As before, visitation will probably still be very limited.
They’ve removed her Genie Headwrap and I’m going to have to get up the nerve to be able to see her scar (Mom says the stiches look railroad tracks) but I have until tomorrow night to get myself ready for it.
For those of you who will ask about Kerrie’s address, it’s the same as all the other ones but the room number will now be P223. We need some new cards to decorate her room with, so feel free to let the mail pour in 🙂
Mom has moved out of the Hospital Apartment, now that Kerrie is back in a room where there is a place to sleep, and the two of them are having a pajama party tonight.
Right about now I am betting that Kerrie is watching Jay Leno, and flipping through the channels during the commercials, and Mom is snoring in the chair next to her.
Some pajama party 🙂

WOW! She is unstoppable! I did jump up and down a little bit, her progress over the last two weeks, combined with a _surgery_ in the middle, she’s doing great! It really is amazing that she can power through all of this, I don’t know how many of us would have given up… but she is almost like a movie, something awe inspiring, inspirational, but nothing you would think could really happen.
Sorry your Mom snores.
(so do I!) 🙂
